A friend who owned a book binding business in Venice, called Legatoria Piazzesi, would watch me head out every morning to photograph with no particular direction in mind. I always let my visual intuition guide me. One day he called out, “There goes Pasquale, perso la bussola” (Patsy, you’ve lost the compass). The phrase stuck with me and I have used it for the title of my book proposal.
